WALKER PUBLIC LIBRARY BUILDING UPDATES
Here you will find the most recent information regarding the Walker Public Library building project. Updates will be organized from most recent to least recent.
February 6th, 2023: The Walker City Council approved of Hytec Construction as the general contractor for the Dale and Harriet Jones Walker Public Library project. They also approved of two agreements for naming opportunities in the amount of $10,000.00 each: the Pastor John Dainsberg Christian/Inspirational Collection and the Howard Mohr Non-Fiction Collection.
January 3rd, 2023:
The Walker City Council approved of utilizing the Sourcewell/Gordian state bid construction procurement process to select a general contractor for the Dale and Harriet Jones Walker Public Library project. Councilmembers Hansen and Senenfelder, and Administrator Fairchild, will interview potential contractors. 
December 15th, 2022:
The Walker City Council approved of an agreement for naming rights in the amount of $50,000.00, to be named the Lois Orton Local Heritage and History Space.
December 5th, 2022:
The Walker City Council discussed interior plans and designs of the Walker Public Library.

October 17th, 2022: the Walker City Council held a special work session and met with elected officials from Pine Lake Township, Leech Lake Township, Turtle Lake Township, and Shingobee Township. The meeting was held to review library building plans and request financial support from the Townships.
October 3rd, 2022
: at the Walker City Council meeting on Monday night, the City Council reviewed exterior and interior renderings. The exterior renderings are the same as below, and following are interior renderings.

August 18th, 2022
: at the Walker City Council meeting on Thursday night, the City Council approved of the Walker Public Library Agreement for Naming Rights: Jacobson Family donation in the amount of $10,000.00 for naming rights of the youth collection, to be named Myrtle Jacobson Youth Collection.
August 1st, 2022: at the Walker City Council meeting on Monday night, the City Council approved of Meyers Group Architecture proposal for Public Library Interior Designer/Space Planning Consultant. The City will work with Meyers Group Architecture on the layout of the inside of the New Walker Public Library. The City Council also approved of spending $5,750.00 to Ulteig for a boundary and topographic survey at the new Public Library site, and getting soil borings at the new library site.
July 5th, 2022: at the Walker City Council meeting on Tuesday night, the City Council approved of a pledge agreement and naming rights agreement from Dale and Harriet Jones. Mr. and Mrs. Jones have pledged to donate 1 million dollars; the City will receive a portion of that each year until 2029. Because of this large donation, they were also granted naming rights of the new building. The building will be called "Dale and Harriet Jones Walker Public Library." Thank you Dale and Harriet!
June 30th, 2022: The City of Walker has been working with HyTec construction on the design of the new library building. Following, you will find the latest rendering design image.

June 9th, 2022: The City of Walker released an RFP for an interior designer/space planning consultant. the due date is July 8th, 2022 at 4:00 p.m. The full RFP can be found here.
April 4th, 2022At the City Council Meeting on Monday night, a land sale with the Walker-Hackensack-Akeley School District was approved. The red circle in the imagine below is where the new library will be constructed. This location is between the water towers and the community garden.
