Property description:

FULL AND PART-TIME POLICE OFFICER OPEN POSITIONS

The City of Walker is seeking applications for full-time and part-time police officers. Applicant must be POST licensed or eligible to be licensed at the time of application. Preference will be given to full-time and part-time licensed officers with previous experience. The wage range is $22.05 - $25.25 with experience and training considered. Wage increases are set every three years by the union contract. Applicants must pass a background check, physical exam, and psychological exam. The time for the City of Walker Library Board Meeting to take place on Wednesday, December 15th, 2021 has changed from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The meeting will take place at the Walker Public Library located in the lower level of the American National Bank as usual.

December Planning Commission Meeting Cancelled

The City of Walker Planning Commission/Board of Adjustments Meeting that was to take place on Monday, December 27th at 6:00 p.m. is cancelled. The next meeting will take place on Monday, January 31st, 2021 at 6:00 p.m. at the Walker Fire Hall.

The City of Walker is requesting proposals for city dock services. The City is looking for an automatically renewing contract beginning on October 4th, 2021.

Scope of services: to remove eight (8) city docks located at the north end of 5th Street and place them at the 4th Street North access. The City would then assist the service provider in placing the docks in winter storage. Come spring, the service provider would then replace the eight (8) city docks at the north end of 5th Street.

Proposals should be received by the City no later than close of business Wednesday, September 20, 2021, to allow adequate time for review. Three (3) copies of each printed item should be provided. Materials may be sent by mail to:

FLUSHING OF HYDRANTS AND CITY-WIDE PICK-UP OF BAGGED LEAVES AND BRANCHES

The Public Works Department will be flushing hydrants this week, starting today. Water mains are routinely flushed to clean the distribution system. Rusty water may be evident during the flushing. If discoloration exists, residents should run the cold tap until it becomes clear.

City-wide spring pick-up of bagged leaves and branches curb-side will take place on Thursday, May 20th and Friday, May 21st.

FOR ENGINEERING CONSULTANT

The City of Walker seeks Statements of Qualifications (SOQ) from an engineering consultant firm to oversee capital improvements at the Walker Municipal Airport for a five-year contract period beginning March 1, 2021.  The process will be in accordance with FAA AC 150/5100-14E.

As well as providing engineering services for specific capital projects relating to airport maintenance, enhancement and long-term development, the consultant will also serve as a link and facilitator between the City and such agencies as the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT), Office of Aeronautics and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The consultant also should expect to work with the City on matters relating to airport planning and zoning, legislative and congressional activities affecting airports, and other advisory activities as needed.

The following projects are currently listed on the airport’s Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) or have the potential to occur within the five-year contract period.  These will be included within the scope of the consultant contract:

  • Fuel System Upgrades
  • Multi-Unit T-Hangar
  • Hangar/T-Hangar Removal and Site Grading
  • Hangar Site Improvements
  • Runway, Taxiway, Apron Rehabilitation and/or Reconstruction
  • Routine Airside and Landside Pavement Maintenance
  • Tree Obstruction Removal
  • Snow Removal Equipment Acquisition
  • Miscellaneous Environmental Studies
  • Snow Removal Equipment building
  • Land acquisition & easement acquisition
  • Runway lighting replacement

Summary: Ordinance 2020-04 states that the City of Walker finds it in the public interest and necessary to provide future parks, trails, and other public open and recreational spaces for citizens of Walker. As such, for every new subdivision of land involving three or more lots which are to be developed for residential purposes, the City Council, with the recommendation of Planning Commission, shall require a payment or dedication to the City.

The City of Walker is finalizing a 20-year Master Plan for the Walker Municipal Airport. The City is hosting a public open house to present the recommended airport facility improvements. Boards depicting the phases of the Master Plan project will be available to view. There will be an opportunity to ask questions and provide comments. All interested persons are invited to attend and present their views on the recommended airport improvements. A presentation of the final draft of the Airport Layout Plan will be given during the City Council meeting.

City of Walker will not Accept Park Applications for the Rest of 2020

The Walker City Council decided on August 3rd, 2020 that the City will not accept any park applications for the rest of 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Walker’s City Park is considered a public park, and therefore The City cannot keep the public from using it. If residents decide to hold events and gatherings there, we ask that they do so in a safe and respectful manner by social distancing and wearing masks.
